Kevin Cook’s series of lunchtime talks the first Tuesday of the month focuses on a different Colorado “lifescape” each month. On March 2 he will be discussing the shrubs of Colorado and on April 6 the topic will be the mammals of Colorado. These popular programs have been filling the Gertrude Scott Meeting Room so try to arrive early. For more information contact Jackie at 962-2586.
Book Discussions for All Ages
At 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 9 the Mother/Daughter Book Discussion for girls in grades 2 and 3 will be discussing Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. Second or third grade girls can participate with any adult woman. For more information, contact Dawn at 962-2587.
On the 4th Thursday of each month teens and tweens also discuss books. Teens Read Too is held at 4 p.m. on March 25 and April 22. Check with Beth at 962-2548 for topics and additional information.
On March 2nd and 3rd, the Adult Book Discussion Groups visit England between the Wars with Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited. The old order is giving way to the new in this wistful sojourn with the aristocratic and complicated Marchmain family. The BBC series (1981) with Jeremy Irons, closely followed the classic novel.
April 6th and 7th takes the reader from Australia to Ireland and onward in an obsessive search for a missing wife and mother. Tim Winton’s The Riders is a psychological thriller: vivid, riveting, rewarding. The groups meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 9 am and 7 pm and at 9 am on the following Wednesday. The ballot for our next year’s worth of reading will be handed out at the April meetings. For more information about the adult book discussions, contact Janice at 962-2402.
