START EARLY TO LEARN ABOUT MONEY

The March and April Money Talks programs help families with financial education for children and the college bound student. A separate program called “$ Smarts” is geared to teens.

If you want your children to know how to spend money wisely, keep track of their money, save for big expenditures and get paid what they are worth, don’t miss the next Money Talks at noon, Tuesday, March 9, and at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 10 in the Gertrude Scott Room at the library. Presenter Laurel Kubin will discuss a variety of financial skills children should learn at each stage of development, from preschool on. She will also share free resources and games that make learning about finances fun. Snacks and beverages served. For more information call 962-2402.

$ Smarts for Teens
The program on Monday, March 15 is for Tweens/Teens (6th - 12th grade.) interested in learning how to manage their money by preparing a personal spending plan and identifying ways to decrease spending and increase income. Parents are welcome to attend with their teen. For more information contact Beth at 962-2548. Please register on Event Keeper. Space is limited to 20 teens.

How to Pay for College
The April Money Talks program topic will be how to pay for college. Census data shows that a college education results in an average annual income $26,000 higher than a high school education alone, but it can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to get that college degree. How can you afford to gain that advantage for yourself or your children? The April 13/14 Money Talks will help you figure out. Presenter Susan Linden will tell you how to estimate the full costs of a college education and then how to prepare for and even reduce those costs. Learn about hidden costs the colleges may neglect to mention. Explore the best new savings plans, where to look for financial aid, and the pros and cons of college loans. Then find out how the colleges estimate your ability to pay and whether there are ways to influence that estimate.  The Tuesday, April 13 program is at noon and the Wednesday, April 14 program is at 6:30 p.m.

The library program is funded by a Smart Investing @ your library grant from FINRA and the ALA. Snacks and beverages are provided.
