Construction of the library expansion and renovation will begin in mid-July and last approximately 14-15 months. The construction industry is very competitive and the current economic climate is favorable for the library. The construction costs submitted by Dohn Construction, the lowest qualified bidder, are 35% less than the architect’s estimate. The library’s Design Team anticipates being able to fully fund the furnishings and technology desired and needed for a modern library.
While there will be disruptions and changes during the construction, the library and City staff as well as the contractors plan to minimize the hassles for library customers as much as possible. The children’s department with great support from City facilities staff already moved the teen and children’s collections and service desks to make room for the demolition that will start the project. It will be an exciting and challenging year but we believe the results will be worth it.
