Gift “size” is not always the same as “amount.” The size of a gift can also be understood in terms of the reasons for giving. Recently we received a donation, from an 8 year old girl, to the Capital Campaign for the Expansion and Renovation of the Library. With permission from her mother, I spoke with the young lady about why it was important to her to make this gift. Annaliese told me that she likes reading and thought her gift would help make the library better. Her favorite books are mysteries and chapter books. She goes to the library at least once a week with her Mom and Dad who started reading to her at night at least by the time she was 2 years old. She started reading herself when she was in kindergarten. Annaliese has set a goal of reading 200 books for the summer reading program! She is learning to use the computer that she got when her parents bought a new one. Her suggestions for the library include a Mother-Daughter book club and a kids’ book club all summer when there is more time to read. She also suggests that when the changes are made at the library it will be a good idea to have a map of the library so people can find what they want.
We can measure the size of a gift but not its impact. The project to expand and renovate the library has been given the “go-ahead” by the City. We continue to need donations to come closer to our goal. We want to provide the materials and equipment that are needed (but not included in the construction budget) to make our library as up-to-date as possible. If you have not yet contributed to the project, please make an impact, following Annaliese’s example, by sending your gift to Friends of the Loveland Public Library Foundation, Inc. at P.O. Box 2635, Loveland, CO 80539-2635. Gifts of $100 or more make you eligible to receive an Enterprise Zone Tax Credit of 25% on your Colorado State Income Tax. (12.5% credit on stock donations.)
Thank You. George Franke, Capital Campaign, Co-Chair
